Information:

The Gold Prospector Museum in Tankavaara in Sodankylä was founded in 1973 to study and preserve the history of gold prospecting in Finland. It is the only international gold prospector museum in the world. The permanent exhibition of the museum explores the colourful history of the gold of Finnish Lapland. Items from 20 countries are on display under the pan-shaped roof of the Golden World building. In summer, the museum also features an outdoor area Auraria and a gold-panning site. In winter, visitors can try gold-panning inside the museum.

The Gold Prospector Museum introduces the life of gold diggers through pictures, documents, tools, and other equipment. The outdoor area features original buildings, water troughs, machines used in gold digging, a turf hut, smoke-sauna, and plenty more dating back to the time of the gold rush. The area also features a stone and mineral collection exhibition
